| The Method |
The Tempo Boxing WayTempo is Italian for rhythm and movement, and these two elements serve as the core for everything Tempo Boxing does. The primary focus is on using timed, controlled body movements to create a fun, challenging and original form of martial arts training, mixed with contemporary exercise techniques and scientific principles that take your fitness to the next level. Tempo Boxing also offers you the chance to try a martial art without all the pressures and rituals that usually involves. Tempo Boxing can be geared to match the skill and fitness level of everyone from beginners to seasoned martial artists. As I designed this system over the past twelve years, I've always kept three things in mind: make it easy to learn, easy to perform, and fun to practice! There is also a minimum of downtime in class because I know your time is precious. Why Tempo Boxing? The world is a competitive and sometimes combative place, both in the office and on the street. Tempo Boxing is guaranteed to give you the mental toughness and physical endurance to handle the day-to-day challenges of life. I think you’ll agree that the ability to focus is becoming more difficult in our world of endless distractions. You must be able to maintain and control your focus to be successful in reaching your goals. Tempo Boxing develops and enhances your natural ability to focus your physical and mental energy. Scientific, systematic and sensibleThere is a direct relationship between training intensity and heart rate. In general, the higher your heart rate (i.e., intensity) is during exercise, the higher the rate at which you expend energy. I use a Polar FS1 watch and Polar T31 transmitter to monitor your heart's "tempo" during your sessions. By keeping you within three key target heart rate zones, I help you get the absolute maximum out of every session. You’ll become more aware of your resting heart rate and get a clearer picture of how your body is coping as you move through each exercise. Monitoring your heart rate isn't just about tracking how fast your heart is beating, either. It also provides information about the relative intensity of the activity, the rate at which you’re expending energy, and, indirectly, the physiological systems (aerobic and anaerobic) that are providing energy. While you are exercising, tempo plays a pivotal role in boosting your aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. Tempo Boxing applies this scientifically proven fact and gears it to your specific fitness level — I'll adjust the tempo up or down as necessary. Punch mitt techniques are the cornerstone of Tempo Boxing. This interactive training style creates a constant flow of energy between you (the practitioner) and me (the instructor). I use the mitts to set the timing (rhythm) of your striking combinations as you move from one phase to the next. By the way, the only contact that takes place is when you strike the punch mitts — you will never have to worry about getting punched. If you're doing Tempo Cross-Fit your body weight will serve as key tool. Developing functional strength and a limber and beautiful physique is the ultimate goal. To achieve that combination, I mix in resistance training, plyometric and core strengthening drills, cardio conditioning and other elements as we explore, develop and enhance your fitness level. Even if you've never practiced a martial art before, I guarantee that you'll have better footwork, balance, endurance, power, strength, flexibility and focus in a very short time. If you have practiced a martial art before, you'll reach gratifying new levels of precision punching, kicking, footwork, combinations and overall athleticism. The Roots of the Tempo Boxing SystemTempo Boxing incorporates elements from the following martial arts: Western boxing (punches, footwork, guard), savate (kicks, footwork) and aikido (defensive footwork). I’ve taken great care in blending particular movements from each of these styles so that Tempo Boxing is easy to learn and understand.

Sekia: "I'm a personal trainer also, and I think Aaron's training style is saiko (terrific) and so original. Aaron's lessons are fun and make me want to push harder. I always arrive early because I'm eager to get going. Doi: "When I first started taking Aaron's class I couldn't skip rope. Now I can do it easily for three minutes just like the boxers I see on TV, and with Aaron's help it only took me two months. My fitness level is way up, my abs look great, and I feel so much stronger. I agree with Saki—Aaron's style is original and fun!" |
